I'm sure even in settlement times High Springs (before it was High Springs!) had some form of annual festival or gathering. However, since 1976 we have formerly held the Pioneer Days Festival. Shoot-Out Re-enactment, 2004

What began as a celebration of the farming harvest held sometime in spring has grown into a full-fledged festival for the whole family to enjoy. For many years Pioneer Days was held the 1st weekend in May. After careful consideration it was decided to change the date and bring the event earlier in the year in attempts to avoid conflicts with Mother's Day weekend and the Spring Graduation for the University of Florida. In 2006 we adopted the 4th Weekend in April. Pioneer Days includes the Heritage Village with Pioneer time demonstrators such as black-smithing and yarn weaving; a Shoot-Out Re-enactment usually accompanied by Hank Madson, the Cowboy Poet; a Kids Korral area with rides and activities for all ages; and, or course, lots of Festival Food in our Food Court. Along with over 100 Craft & Artist vendors Pioneer Days also includes Business Expo and Non-profit Organizations. We are constently seeking new ways to keep Pioneer Days fresh and entertaining for vendors and visitors alike so we welcome your feedback and suggestions. We hope you find all the information you are looking for on our website but please feel free to contact our Visitors Center for additional information, 386-454-3120 or via email at chamber@highsprings.com NEW IN 2008! We are accepting nominations for a Pioneering Family that we can recognize and celebrate during the festivities. The nomination form link is below. Also, we'll be having an Antique Tractor Show as part of the festivities! |
